State House Advocacy Day, July 2012
CAN organized an enthusiastic Advocacy Day at the Massachusetts State House in support of H.3982, An Act Relative to Congo Conflict Minerals. Advocates visited approximately 60 legislators and aides and delivered letters from constituents asking them to support the bill.
Public Hearing on H.3982, An Act Relative to Congo Conflict Minerals, April 2012
CAN brought together experts and advocates from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Washington D.C. to testify before the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight. The committee issued a favorable report on the bill immediately after the hearing.
Simmons College Presentation, March 2012
CAN returned to the Graduate School of Social Work for its annual spring presentation to the International Social Work class. Congo Action Now has responded to a variety of speaking and panel requests including those from the First Unitarian Society in Newton, the National Association of Social Workers, the Shalupe Foundation, MA Peace Action, and St. Mary’s Congolese congregation in Lynn, MA.
